About the Department
The department was started in the year 2014-15. Since its inception the students output has been 150+. The department has a healthy and students friendly environment. Focus of the faculty has been on improvement of student’s mental and intellectual growth, for which curricular and co-curricular activities are carried out throughout the year. The students are also trained for competitive exams like K-SET, CSIR-NET, IFS and other competitive exams. Career counselling sessions are also organized on regular basis for students benefit.
The Post-Graduate course covers both basic and applied aspects of Zoology. For completion of the course students undertake projects wherein they are trained for both laboratory work and field exposure, which in turn makes them and excellent Zoologist.
The students also undertake filed visits, study tours to places of Zoological, environmental importance like National parks, Wildlife sanctuaries, marine and fresh water ecosystems. The department aims to undertake visits to places of Biodiversity importance like Andaman and Nicobar islands, which would greatly enhance their interest and knowledge in the field of Zoology.
The Department of Zoology has received grants from various agencies such as UGC and RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) to develop infrastructural facilities. The department has planned to undertake interdisciplinary research programs in neuroendocrinology, reproductive biology, genetics and entomology.
Vision
To be center of excellence through the process of learning, teaching and research in animal sciences.
Mission
To develop competent and responsible zoologists.
To inculcate new tools and techniques for high quality research.
To create awareness regarding protection and conservation of environment.
To train students who would become teachers par excellence and excel in quality research and innovations.
