About the Department :

Department of Painting has been established in 1964, under the control of Director of Technical Education, Bangalore. Initially, Diploma Courses in Art for duration of Five Years was offered in this Disciplines i.e., Painting. With a government order in the year 1992, Government School of Arts & Crafts was transferred to Kuvempu University and brought under its jurisdiction as its constituent college, and was renamed as University College of Fine Arts, Davangere. The Diploma course in Painting was upgraded to Bachelor Degree programmes, as specialization subject in the above mentioned department. In the academic year 2005-06 the course was modified as Bachelor of Visual Arts and Semester scheme was introduced in the place of Annual scheme. The semester scheme was continued up to the academic year 2013-14. In the academic year 2014-15 annual scheme was introduced in the place of semester scheme. In 2009 the college came under the jurisdiction of Davangere University and its constituent college due to geographical location. So this department also came under Davangere University. From the academic year 2012 BFA in Painting has been renamed as BVA in Painting and changed its course duration from 2+3 years (after SSLC) to 1+3 years after PUC / equivalent passing certificate as per UGC norms from academic year 2018-19.
