Introduction
The Davangere University, Davangere has formed Student Council as per the UGC guidelines. The Student Council ensures healthy, joyful, educative and playful environment for the students in the University, by encouraging the students to participate in various University academic and co-curricular activities.
The Davangere University, Davangere strives to maintain the standards of excellence as an Academic Institution. In this regard the University ensures that the best possible environment exists for all students, irrespective of their socio-economics class. For this purpose the University has established a STUDENTS WELFARE SECTION to execute University polices concerned to welfare of the students.
Student welfare is an important component in the overall Management of student matters. To facilitate efficient provision of the welfare services, the unit has several sections such as Guidance and Counseling, Hostels and Accommodation , Youth Festival, Avishkar, Post- Graduate NSS activities, organizing university Programmes,, Catering, games and Sports, warden ship, Security and health sections.
Director, Students’ Welfare is responsible for making arrangements for housing, boarding and welfare of the students and various co-curricular activities such as arrangement of Inter Collegiate, Inter University and National level Sports tournaments, literary and cultural competitions, and also implements various activities of National Service Scheme as Programme Coordinator (NSS) other than the academic work. The Directorate facilitates the students of outgoing batches in finding the right placement based on their caliber. Students of DUD get placed in national and international sectors, universities, banks, agro-based companies, agricultural engineering firms multinational companies, NGO’s are a few among them. Directorate of Students Welfare serves as a hub of students’ guidance, counseling and placement, financial assistance, Students’ discipline activities for all its constituent colleges. The ultimate objective is to groom the students to become good citizens of country by personality development and skill for better living. The DSW office also comprises different cadre official’s assigned additional duties from other departments for welfare activities. The Directorate conducts various training programmes on Leadership & Personality Development through Life skills for the holistic development of the Students. In addition to the above various special programme assigned by State Government like Voter awareness Programme, Swachch Bharat Mission, Woman Empowerment Programme are carried out.

To be steadfast in the provision of all students welfare services to the students in order to facilitate smooth running of the university academic Programmes.
OBJECTIVES
1.To impart various training to the students to improve their overall personality and communication skills for various competitive examinations.
2.To provide relevant information on various courses, admission procedures and fellowships of financial assistance available for higher studies in India and abroad.
3.To organize and maintain contact with the alumni association of the University.
4.To provide financial assistance to students through awarding scholarship.
5.To create facilities for the welfare of the students in coordination with the Principals of the various colleges.
6.To strive for excellence in education for the realization of a vibrant and inclusive society through knowledge creation and dissemination.
7.To inculcate right values among students.
8.To promote leadership qualities among students.
9.To produce socially sensitive citizens.
10.To hasten the process of creating a knowledge society.
The Davangere University strives to maintain the standards of excellence as an Academic Institution. Nearly 4000 post graduate and 35,000 undergraduate students, studying in the constituent and affiliated colleges, are covered under the wide variety of welfare Programmes run by the University.
Students Welfare Section has a great deal to offer to students. It administers a number of University policies concerned with hostels, welfare schemes, youth festivals, student complaints etc.
The main objectives of the Students Welfare Section include:
Promotion of academic interests in students.
1.To make arrangements and supervise of the housing and messing of students, in close coordination with the Deans of the respective colleges / institutions.
2.To arrange programmes of students’ counseling.
3.To arrange for the placement and employment of students in accordance with the approved scheme.
4.To initiate, plan and organize students’ extra – curricular activities such as sports, cultural, adventure and other recreational activities and to look after the general welfare of the students.
5.To assist in the placement of the graduates of the University.
6.To organize and maintain contact with the Alumni Association of the University .
7.To establish liaison between students and teachers in consultation with Deans, Principals Directors of various Colleges.
8.To ensure health and hygiene of the students and control medicinal and health services and other welfare activities of health centre of the University.
9.To arrange for trainings to the students to improve their overall personality and communication skills for various competitive examinations.
10.To maintain discipline, law and order of the students in the constituent colleges / institutions, through the respective Principal / Deans and for the discharge of the duty may award suitable punishment to the students on the recommendations of the concerned Deans in accordance with the rules and regulations made in this behalf for acts of misdemeanor except that before he expels or rusticates a student, he shall get the prior approval of the Vice-Chancellor.
11.To arrange educational tours and finalize the tour programmes of the students as per the existing policies of the University in consultation with the respective Deans.
12.To organize co-operative consumers’ societies, canteens and cooperative societies for the welfare of students and the University employees in consultation with concerned officers.
