About the Department:

The Department of Studies in Commerce was established in the year 1979 as one of the two departments, which were started along with establishment of Post-Graduate Centre by University of Mysore at Davangere. The Department was brought under the purview of Kuvempu University after its establishment in the year 1987. Currently, the Department of Studies in Commerce is functioning under Davangere University after its instituting on 18th August 2009 by being carved out of Kuvempu University. 

The Department offers Masters, PG diploma and Doctoral programs in the field of Commerce. It believes in nurturing and developing professional competencies in students through quality education, research and continuous innovation. The students of the department graduate with a concrete understanding of relevant subject knowledge and strong problem solving skills in diverse areas with human values. It also grooms the students with an aim to make them industry ready professionals with hands on knowledge in their selected field of specialization to effectively contribute to society with commitment and integrity.

From the inception of the department, it has produced more than 4000 Post Graduate students. The students of the department are serving the society by occupying the prominent positions in various Universities, Corporates, Colleges, Government departments and also by their own business establishments etc. The Department provides various platforms for the students to nurture skills, innovate and build leadership through various curricular and extracurricular activities. The faculty members of the department are very active in research manuscript publications, books, edited volumes, etc., their research work is well cited by the research community.

Highlights of the Department:

  1. The Scheme of Teaching and Evaluation of the programs are designed by the team of seasoned academicians with the support of Chartered accountants and industry experts.
  2. Emphasis on collaborative learning process through modern pedagogy.
  3. Providing strong practical perspective through continuous interaction with business and industry professionals.
  4. Conducts students’ centric activities like Product lunch, Commerce quiz, Collage making, essay writing, Seminar presentation, Case studies, Problem solving etc., on regular basis.
  5. Conducts Series of Special lectures by Eminent speakers, Seasoned academicians, Industrialist and Chartered accountants etc.,
  6. Organizes regular local industrial visits, Grassroots visits, Practical training and excursions.
  7. Encourages Faculty members and students to participate in the National and International Conferences and Conventions etc.,  
  8. Department has internal library with 5200 + high quality text books, more than 150 + Ph.D. thesis for Students and Research scholars reference.
  9. Conducts daily current event sessions for the students, encourages them to participate in the improvement of communication skills.
  10. Regular mentoring for the students in terms academic and non-academic activities.
