University College of Visual Arts was established in 1964 in the name of Govt School of Arts & Crafts (SAC) in Davangere. This was the first of its kind in Karnataka state. It was under the control of Director of Technical Education, Bangalore. It is the only constituent college of Davangere University and in Karnataka. The college is running Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Applied Art, Painting, Sculpture and Animation & Multimedia.

 The College offers courses of high skills and excellent career for students in the Central / State Govt. and reputed Private Sectors such as Museums, Art Gallery, Animation Studios, Advertising, Print Making, product manufacturing and software as Communication Designers / Graphic Designers / 2D/3D Animators / Photographers / Web designers / Artists and Art Teachers in Central / State Govt. and Private Colleges and Schools / Individual and Professional Painters / Sculptors.

 Resource persons are invited in each department for every academic year for interaction, demonstration and discussion with students and staff. The students are encouraged to participate in major art exhibitions / Art camps / Seminars, Galleries advertising-agencies and many other national and state level art and cultural events.

 In addition to this the College has NSS wing & Alumni Association; several art & socially useful activities are being conducted by them.

 The college has a Digital Arts related well equipped Computer Lab and good number of rare collections of books of eminent, popular, renowned artists published by national and international publishers. The institution has rare collection of Art works of eminent Artists of Karnataka & other states. The wonderful Art gallery constructed recently supports the students in building the Art knowledge. The annual academic and cultural festival ‘CHITROTSAVA’ is being conducted and it is a platform for showcasing talent which encourages the students. Many of Alumni have occupied top positions and many of them are award winners in Central / State Govt, and reputed private / Public Sectors in India and abroad. The Art has no bond. The Students who have trained in this institution have achieved tremendous success in their carrier. The College has already completed 57 years.

PROSPECTUS

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility criteria for the admission of BVA Foundation

(Bachelor of Visual Arts) Course.

  1. The minimum qualification for the admission is P.U.C/10+2 or Equivalent any other examination

THE COURSE

Duration of the course is annual based 4 years, (i.e One Year Foundation & 3 Years Degree course based on specialization)

THE  INTAKE

 The intake for BVA Foundation course is 80 Seats.

  1. Reservation of seats for BVA Foundation course shall be made as per the norms prescribed by Govt. of Karnataka/Davangere University.
  1. Eligibility criteria for the admission to the first year BVA Degree Course is as follows.

          Students of Davangere University who have passed the One year BVA Foundation  course will be promoted to the BVA Degree course. Students from other recognized Institution / University who have passed an equivalent exam (semester / Non semester) to the One year foundation course of the University shall also be considered eligible for admission to the I  year BVA Degree Course.

PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION TO THE FIRST YEAR BVA DEGREE

          The admission of the eligible students shall be limited to the number of applications available and the seats are allocated on merit cum option base. The progress in the One year BVA Foundation Examination will also be considered.

          Only those students who have undergone full-time theory and practical training of  I  to III year Degree of the BVA in the respective discipline have put in the required attendance of 75% as per regulations shall be allowed to appear for the respective examinations.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The Four years BVA Degree Course consists of (a) Foundation course of 1 years. (b) BVA  Degree course of 3 years.

ACADEMIC  TERM

As per the Annual calendar of Events approved by the Davangere University from  time to time.

ATTENDANCE

1) Each year will be considered as a unit

    of attendance eligibility.

2) A Student shall be considered to have satisfied the requirements of attendance for the year, if he / she has attended not less than 75% of the number of classes till the end of the year in all subjects.

3) A candidate having less than 75% attendance in any subject shall not be permitted to take the examination.

4) Only 40 days of concession in attendance for an academic year will be given to those students who represent his / her institution / University / Karnataka State / Nation in Sports / NCC / NSS / Cultural or any other officially sponsored activities based an the recommendation or prior permission from the head of the  institution concerned. The same procedure will be followed for the accident / serious illness leading to actual hospitalization cases.

APPEARANCE FOR THE EXAMINATION

  1. A candidate shall register for all the subjects of the year, when he / she appears for the examination at first attempt.
  2. A candidate shall not be admitted to the practical examinations unless he/she produces the prescribed assignments duly certified as satisfactory by the Head of the Department of the subject concerned at the first appearance.
  3. The Examination of One year BVA Foundation course and the I to III year BVA specialization Degree shall be conducted by the Davangere University.

STUDENT’S UNION

           The students admitted for the academic year should enroll their names are considered as ‘the members of the student’s Union’ and thus should form the Union by nomination.

  1. There will be extra curricular activities like cultural and sports events conducted by students’ Union. The winners will be honoured.
  2. Seminars, Special Lectures and painting, Applied Art, Sculpture and Animation & Multimedia demonstrations & Workshops will be arranged by time to time.
  3. Educational tours will be conducted by time to time.

LIBRARY

The full pledged library reference facility is being made available to the students to cater the needs of the academic studies for the students.

GOLD MEDALS

          The Gold medals are donated by the following philanthropists to the final year BVA students those who have passed in 1st class with highest marks in the respective disciplines.

  1. Prof. V. B. Hiregoudar, Ex-Principal, U.C.F.A, Davangere, Gold Medal will be awarded for those who tops among the disciplines of BVA Degree.
  2. Sri. Subash Modi, M/s Subharathna Motors, Davangere, Gold Medal will be awarded for those who tops in BVA Applied Art.
  3. Sri.R.Ramanand, Industrialist, Davangere, Gold Medal will be awarded for those who tops in BVA Painting.
  4. Shilpi Devendrappa Gundappa Mayachar & Brothers of Bagalkote, Gold Medal will be awarded for those who tops in BVA Sculpture.
  5. Sri. Shankar Patil & Smt. Parvathi Patil, Davangere, Gold Medal will be awarded for those who tops in BVA Applied Art.

CASH PRIZES

  1. Cash prize of Rs.200/- donated by Sri. R.B. Kumbar the Ex-principal of the College will be given to the final year BVA Painting Student who secures the 1st Rank.
  2. Cash prize of Rs.500/- (Two Prizes) donated by Sri. S.J. Prakash will be awarded to the students of the final year BVA painting and BVA Applied Art who would pass 1st Class with highest marks.

Diploma in Digital Art Overview:

Diploma in Digital Art has been established in the academic year 2020-21. One-year Undergraduate Diploma Course offered by Davangere University under the National Skills Qualifications Framework. (NSQF Level -5)
